Star Wars and the Marvel Comics universe will officially meet for the first time in Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, a five-issue miniseries set to debut in the United States in January 2027. Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics announced the project in preparation for the fiftieth anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope, entrusting the script to Kevin Smith and the art to David Marquez.

The story will bring characters from the Star Wars galaxy directly to Earth-616, the main continuity of Marvel comics. According to the first synopsis, a reality-breaking spell will cause Marvel heroes to witness the events of A New Hope as they begin to manifest on Earth. Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, and Chewbacca will thus cross paths with the Avengers and Spider-Man, while on the opposing front, Doctor Doom will side with Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire.

Promotional images show a much broader encounter: in addition to Spider-Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and Hulk, characters like Wolverine, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, and Professor X appear. On the villain side, Thanos and Ultron were also depicted, although for now Marvel and Lucasfilm have not clarified the actual weight of all these characters in the story.

Kevin Smith explained that the idea taps into a desire he had cultivated as a reader. In the 1980s, he subscribed to Marvel's Star Wars comics and imagined impossible encounters like Spider-Man and the saga's heroes, or Doctor Doom and its antagonists. David Marquez, currently also working on Uncanny X-Men, will instead create the miniseries' interior art and a series of interconnected covers.

The choice of 2027 is not random. Marvel published Star Wars #1 on April 12, 1977, a few weeks before the original film's release, beginning a decades-long editorial relationship that strongly resumed in 2015 when the publisher returned to regularly publishing the saga's comics. C.B. Cebulski explained that the idea of a true crossover had been discussed since Marvel reacquired the license, but the fiftieth anniversary of A New Hope was considered the right time to make it happen.

Hope Assembles will be monthly: the first issue will be released in January 2027 and the fifth will conclude the miniseries in May, around the film's anniversary. The exact debut date, price, or any details about an Italian edition have not yet been announced.
