Sony has confirmed PlayStation Store's new DRM
Fortunately, the additional check is a one-time occurrence
In recent days, the news related to digital games purchased on PlayStation Store has caused quite a stir: an online check that must be completed within a 30-day period, under penalty of license deactivation. The uproar was caused by the lack of information on the matter: it was unclear whether it was a monthly requirement, or even if it was an intentional change or a bug. Now, however, we can provide some clarity on the matter.
The check exists, but it's a one-time thing
A spokesperson for Sony Interactive Entertainment, contacted by Gamespot, confirmed that it is a voluntary measure: for new purchases, a check is required to confirm the license. Fortunately, it is a one-time measure; it only needs to be done once. However, the fact remains that Sony introduced this additional requirement without first conducting an appropriate information campaign, as would have been desirable.
