Silksong is a success, boosting the original Hollow Knight
The indie game achieves impressive numbers on Steam
Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated metroidvania developed by Australian studio Team Cherry, has been available since last Thursday on all major platforms, and while it's too early to discuss sales figures, we can already consider it a success. Immediately after its launch, we reported how the game's release had caused issues for Steam, but we must clarify: on Thursday, not only Valve's digital store but also console stores suffered from the enormous influx of users due to Silksong.
Hollow Knight: Silksong's numbers on Steam
If you need further proof of Silksong's success, just look at the data provided by SteamDB: in its first days on Valve's store, Team Cherry's new title consistently attracted half a million concurrent players (to be precise, the current peak is 587,150, but it could rise in the coming hours). Considering that this is an indie metroidvania, also available on all platforms and even on Game Pass, we are looking at an extraordinary number.
The Silksong effect on the original Hollow Knight
Silksong's release has also had a very positive effect on its predecessor, the first Hollow Knight, which is currently experiencing a second youth. In its eight years of existence, Hollow Knight had accumulated a maximum of about 20,000 concurrent players on Steam: well, according to SteamDB, yesterday it reached a peak of 88,360, more than quadruple.
