Roblox Has Problems with Texas: The Game Sued
Very harsh words from the American state's Attorney General
Roblox, the platform that offers a plurality of video game experiences and is very popular among young people, has long been hit by harsh criticism from those who believe not enough is being done to protect minors from abuse. The situation is perceived as so serious that some authorities have taken action themselves: a few months ago we saw the Louisiana case, now it's Texas's turn.
The Attorney General's Accusations
Ken Paxton, Attorney General of Texas, announced via a Twitter/X post that he is suing Roblox Corporation, the company behind the eponymous game, without mincing words: according to Paxton, the platform prioritizes "pixel pedophiles" and profit over the protection of Texan children. He claims Roblox blatantly ignores Texan and state laws, deceiving parents about the risks on the platform.
Roblox is called "a breeding ground for predators", an expression already used by the Louisiana Attorney General we mentioned above. The BBC contacted Roblox Corporation for comment: a spokesperson stated that the company is disappointed to be sued based on statements that do not correspond to reality and sensationalism. Furthermore, Roblox Corporation shares Paxton's commitment to child protection and has taken appropriate measures to that end.
