Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Has Been Canceled!
There's been an earthquake at Ubisoft headquarters
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, a beloved game from 2003, will no longer receive a remake. The project was presented during Ubisoft Forward in June 2024, with a launch window set for 2026, but it has surprisingly been cut as part of a major restructuring that will be implemented over the coming months by parent company Ubisoft.
Games cut by Ubisoft
The Sands of Time remake is the only name mentioned by Ubisoft, but it's not the only game cut: in the official statement, the French company announced that it has ceased work on 4 other unannounced projects, three of which are new IPs, plus an additional mobile title. In total, six video games will therefore not see the light of day. Ubisoft's future portfolio will focus on open-world experiences and GAAS.
Ubisoft's Restructuring
Ubisoft has also decided to reorganize its workforce: starting in April, development will be entrusted to five studios, called "Creative Houses", each possessing a specific area of expertise, but united by a network of shared services and productivity. The list of Creative Houses is as follows:
- CH1 (Vantage Studios) - Will handle major franchises, with the task of making them billion-dollar IPs with annual releases. Brands: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Rainbow Six
- CH2 - Will handle competitive and cooperative shooters. Brands: The Division, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell
- CH3 - Will handle a series of live service experiences. Brands: For Honor, The Crew, Riders Republic, Brawlhalla, Skull & Bones
- CH4 - Will handle immersive and narrative-driven fantasy universes. Brands: Anno, Might & Magic, Rayman, Prince of Persia, Beyond Good & Evil
- CH5 - Will handle family-friendly titles. Brands: Just Dance, Idle Miner Tycoon, Ketchapp, Hungry Shark, Invincible: Guarding the Globe, Uno, Hasbro
