Planet of Lana II: Interview with Composer Takeshi Furukawa
A deep dive into the music of the new game
The events of Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf take place a few years after those of the first episode. In the meantime, the protagonist has grown older and the story told has greater ambition: these characteristics are reflected in the game's soundtrack, as explained by composer Takeshi Furukawa, who accompanies us during the recordings in Budapest.
The Soundtrack of Planet of Lana II
For the new setting, melodies with a graver tone and greater breadth were deemed appropriate compared to those of the first chapter: Furukawa was able to rely on an orchestra composed of no less than 103 instrumentalists and 36 singers. The composer did not shy away from using unusual instruments: some belonging to Swedish tradition were even used, such as the nyckelharpa and kulning.
This is because the developer, Wishfully, is indeed Swedish. Furukawa was in close contact with the studio, constantly receiving images of the game, so as to be able to give the music an affine artistic direction. The scenario of Planet of Lana II is quite complex, which is why Furukawa preferred to devise melodies that were not too intricate: to avoid the risk of overloading the user with sensory stimuli, a simple acoustic identity was chosen.
We remind you that Planet of Lana II will be released in 2026. Wishfully's new adventure will arrive on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PC (Steam, Xbox PC). Furthermore, it will be available from day one on the subscription service Game Pass. If you want to see the game in action, this gameplay trailer is for you.
