National Treasure 3, Benjamin Gates Could Return
Long suspended, the project has overcome one of the main obstacles that prevented its realization
Nicolas Cage could return to play Benjamin Franklin Gates. Jon Turteltaub, director of the first two chapters, has confirmed that Disney is concretely working on National Treasure 3, with a script that has finally convinced both the director and the Studio.
During an event dedicated to the saga in Philadelphia, Turteltaub revealed that Disney has finally greenlit the script. Having been in a kind of limbo for a long time, the project has therefore overcome one of the main obstacles that prevented its realization.
Nicolas Cage Would Be a Welcome Return
The director also explained that the intention is to bring back, as much as possible, the performers from previous films. A statement that immediately rekindles hopes for Nicolas Cage, who starred as the treasure-hunting archaeologist. The actor had publicly denied the existence of a third film just two years ago, when he had essentially ruled out a return to the saga. Then in October 2025, Jerry Bruckheimer spoke of progress in negotiations.
For now, Disney has not announced the definitive cast or a release date. It remains to be seen whether Cage's return will become official and which other familiar faces will return alongside him. After National Treasure in 2004 and National Treasure: Book of Secrets in 2007, the treasure hunt could finally resume.
