Narnia: The Magician's Nephew – Greta Gerwig's Film Poster
Meryl Streep and a rock legend bring the lion Aslan to life
The first poster for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew shows Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer flying on the winged horse Fledge, while in the background, stars outline Aslan's silhouette. Netflix accompanied the image's reveal with the announcement of the first official trailer online.
Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film adapts C.S. Lewis's novel that tells the birth of Narnia, through the two children's journey in the Wood between the Worlds. The story precedes the events of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Meryl Streep will be Aslan, with a touch of David Bowie
The lion's voice will be entrusted to Meryl Streep, a choice that marks a change from previous film adaptations, in which the character was voiced by Liam Neeson. Gerwig explained that she sought an actress capable of combining authority with childlike wonder.
The director also cited David Bowie as a reference for Aslan's visual identity, who will have different colored eyes and red markings on his muzzle. The intention is to build a fantastical universe imbued with a rock-like energy. The cast is worthy of such a production with big names, including Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, and Carey Mulligan.
IMAX screenings in the USA will begin on February 10, 2027, the Italian theatrical release on February 11, and the worldwide release the following day. Its arrival on Netflix is scheduled for April 2.
