Whitney Peak joins the cast of Miami Vice ’85, the new film directed by Joseph Kosinski that will bring the universe of the celebrated television series back to the big screen. The actress will star alongside Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in a Universal production set in Miami in 1985.

Peak comes to Miami Vice ’85 after gaining attention with Gossip Girl and Hocus Pocus 2. Her next appearance will also be in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, where she will play Lenore Dove.

A new name for Kosinski's Miami Vice

For Miami Vice ’85, the role could carry more weight than her simple entry into the cast suggests. According to Deadline, the actress was chosen after a series of auditions that included chemistry tests with Michael B. Jordan. Her character could therefore be romantically linked to the actor's, although Universal has not yet officially confirmed the information.

The project will draw inspiration from the original series' pilot episode but will tell an original story written by Dan Gilroy. The cast already features Michael B. Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs and Austin Butler as Sonny Crockett, while Alden Ehrenreich and Whitney Peak joined later. These three actors currently lead an expanding cast for a film scheduled in theaters on May 19, 2028, also in IMAX format.

Peak's arrival thus adds a new element to a project that openly aims to recapture the atmosphere of the era in which Miami Vice became a television phenomenon. The hope is that Kosinski's work will at least manage to match Michael Mann's supercool cinematic remake with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.

We therefore consider the older project to be abandoned, which saw the return of the original duo, occasionally brought up by Don Johnson himself in various interviews.
