Mass Effect 5 - or at least, that's presumed to be the title of the next installment in the BioWare and Electronic Arts franchise - is one of those games you can never know enough about. It's been known for some time that the team led by Mike Gamble is working on something, but since last January, we haven't had much new information.

However, on the evening of November 7th - N7 is traditionally Mass Effect Day - Gamble published the classic post on the official franchise blog and chose a conversational tone to dispel any rumors of cancellation or otherwise among fans.

"Let's start by making things clear: the next Mass Effect game is in development, and EA and BioWare remain committed to telling new stories in this universe - Gamble assures - The truth is, the last few years have been incredibly busy here at BioWare, but right now the team is solely focused on Mass Effect. We have a lot of universe to cover, a lot of features to build, and a lot of love interests to imagine. We're excited about what we're building, and we make you a promise: when we're ready, there will be a lot of fun to show. Until then, we thank you for your patience because you're all hungry for news, and I know you'll look for hidden meanings in my Tweets (okay: sometimes they do have hidden meanings) - and he concludes with a Post Scriptum - There's no secret meaning in what I wrote today, I assure you!"

Mass Effect 5 and the Krogan Civil War

BioWare recently released new artwork related to the Mass Effect universe, showing a group of Krogan in battle gear, almost all with helmets on: the only one without a helmet has been identified by many as Grunt, a character who appeared in Mass Effect 2, but now shown in an aged version. The image caption reads "Civil War" [quite implicitly "of the Krogan"].

This is enough to hypothesize that such a scenario is part - or a possible part - of the plot of the anticipated Mass Effect 5. For now, however, we can only await more precise statements...
