James Ransone - American Actor Dies by Suicide
Best known for his role as Ziggy Sobotka in the second season of The Wire
American actor James Ransone, best known for his role as Ziggy Sobotka in the second season of The Wire, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 46. According to the county medical examiner's office, his death occurred on Friday and was classified as suicide by hanging.
Personal Trauma, Addiction, Emotional Exhaustion
Ransone became a recognizable face thanks to the cult series created by David Simon, in which he played the tormented son of a Baltimore longshoreman, a character remembered for his fragility and unpredictability. He later worked with Simon again in Generation Kill, where he portrayed Corporal Josh Ray Person in all seven episodes of the HBO miniseries.
In recent years, audiences also saw him in mainstream cinema, particularly in It: Chapter Two, where he played Eddie Kaspbrak, distinguishing himself within a cast that included Bill Hader, Jessica Chastain, and James McAvoy. News of his passing was followed by numerous messages of condolence on social media. Actor François Arnaud wrote: “A unique actor, capable of continuously inspiring and surprising.”
Born in Baltimore in 1979, Ransone had spoken openly in recent years about personal trauma and addictions, explaining how acting was for him a form of catharsis but also of deep emotional exhaustion. His passing leaves a void for those who appreciated his ability to bring humanity to difficult and contradictory characters.
