Square Enix has shared a lengthy teaser to preview the new content arriving with Evercold, the next expansion for the popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. This additional content is expected in January 2027 and will be released on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (via proprietary client or Steam). Among the new features, the Icebound Realm of the Fourth, a new realm to explore, stands out.

In this realm, two gigantic airships host distinctive biomes: these are The Realmship of Water, Naglfar and The Realmship of Fire, Hringhorni. Among the various new areas in Evercold, the city of Fargarth is also noteworthy. But the new features are certainly not limited to the zones to visit: suffice it to say that the level cap will be raised from 100 to 110, and two new classes will be introduced, Bastion (Tank) and Physical Ranged DPS.

Structural Innovations in Final Fantasy XIV

The developers are overhauling Final Fantasy XIV's gameplay system from the ground up to make the experience more modern. Firstly, seasons will be redesigned to improve rewards for users. Combat, in turn, has been redesigned and... split into two: there will be the Reborn mode, based on the current one, alongside the new Evolved mode, designed to enhance the uniqueness of each class.

Your virtual avatar will be much more customizable, with more aesthetic options and even the ability to modify animations. Progression will be made freer: from a certain point in the game, you will be able to explore world areas in any order you desire. Finally, in some specific areas of Evercold, enemies will automatically adapt to the user's level. For more information, consult the official website.
