Epic Games Store is Growing and Renewing Itself
The digital PC store is improving its numbers, but is still far from Steam
Epic Games Store has tallied its results for 2025, and the concluded year showed a promising growth trend. The digital store for computers recorded upward data for certain key items, including the number of users and revenue. Furthermore, the platform's user experience has been improved with the addition of some important features.
Epic Games Store Revenue
According to the report shared on the official website, a total of $1.16 billion was spent on the Epic Games Store in 2025, a 6% increase compared to 2024. Of this, $400 million was spent on third-party games (excluding a certain Fortnite), marking a record 57% increase compared to 2024. Please note: all microtransactions from titles with an autonomous payment system are excluded from the calculation, because EGS does not receive a percentage on them.
Epic Games Store User and Game Numbers
There are other interesting figures to consider, which, however, highlight the distance from its main competitor. Epic Games Store boasts 317 million accounts, and in December, a record of 78 million monthly users was set: impressive numbers, but they pale in comparison to Steam, which already reached 1 billion accounts in 2019 and exceeds 40 million concurrent users every month. Over 6,000 games are now available on the Epic Games store: here too, the comparison with Steam is stark, as the latter has published as many as 20,000... in the last year alone.
Latest Features Arrived on Epic Games Store
Since November 2025, it has been possible to gift games to friends on the Epic Games Store. This new feature led to over 100,000 gifts being given during the Christmas holiday period, but it arrived years behind schedule compared to the competition. Another important change was the launch of the Epic Games App last December, which provided two-factor authentication via smartphone. Here too, it's a welcome feature, but not very timely.
The Future of Epic Games Store
There is still a long way to go to align with the competition, and Epic Games knows this, but it has significant changes in store for the near future. The main one consists of rebuilding the store's architecture: Epic Games Store will be revised from the ground up to become more usable, faster, and more stable. The new version of EGS will arrive in the summer. Furthermore, the store's social dimension will be expanded, with new spaces for the community and enhanced text chat.
It's not just about text chat, but also voice chat, which will be integrated into the client in the second quarter of 2026. Another important step forward for Epic Games Store will be the creation of a shared PC-mobile library, which is planned for the autumn. Finally, the digital store continues to undertake initiatives that help developers publish their works.
