Sir Ridley Scott returns to post-apocalyptic cinema with The Dog Stars – Guided by the Stars, currently set to arrive in Italian cinemas on March 26, 2026, distributed by Walt Disney Studios. The film is an adaptation of Peter Heller's 2012 novel of the same name, with a screenplay by Mark L. Smith, also the writer of The Revenant and Twisters.

Set in a world devastated by a virus that wiped out much of humanity, The Dog Stars tells of survival amidst ruins, solitude, and violence, where the few survivors must defend themselves from gangs of raiders known as Reapers. The protagonist of the story is Hig, played by Jacob Elordi, a former civilian pilot who lost his wife to the pandemic.

A New Dystopian Future for the British Master

Hig lives isolated in an abandoned air base in Colorado with his dog and a tough, pragmatic ex-marine, played by Josh Brolin. The pair are polar opposites in character, forced to collaborate to survive. Hig's routine is disrupted when a mysterious radio message intercepted aboard his 1956 Cessna rekindles the hope that life still exists somewhere. Driven by the need to believe in a future, Hig decides to fly beyond the safe boundary, risking everything.

The cast also includes Guy Pearce, Margaret Qualley, and Benedict Wong. Sir Ridley Scott produces the film alongside Michael Pruss, Mark L. Smith, and Cliff Roberts. A return to the dark and visionary atmospheres dear to the director of immense works like Alien and Blade Runner.
