The first teaser for Crystal Lake offers a glimpse into the direction chosen by A24 and Peacock to relaunch the Friday the 13th universe. The prequel series abandons the idea of immediately focusing on Jason Voorhees and shifts attention to his mother Pamela, played by Linda Cardellini.

The short clip suggests a story that explores the events following the death of young Jason, tracking the woman's progressive psychological breakdown. The goal is to delve deeper into a character who has so far remained on the sidelines, recounting her pain, guilt, and the transformation that will lead her to become the figure known to fans of the saga.

Pamela Voorhees becomes the focal point of the story

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, also involved in IT: Welcome to Derry, explained that he wanted to build a story centered on character evolution rather than just the slasher component. Jason will still be present, but as a key element of the story and not yet as the famous masked killer.

The series also modifies the traditional chronology, shifting events from the 1950s to the 1970s, a choice designed to leverage the cultural context that preceded the explosion of modern horror. The cast also includes Callum Vinson, William Catlett, Devin Kessler, and Cameron Scoggins, while Victor Miller, screenwriter of the original 1980 film, is among the executive producers.

Crystal Lake will debut on October 15th on Peacock with a season consisting of eight episodes; in our region, it is likely to arrive around the same time on Sky and NOW.
