While much of the PC audio market continues to shift towards external DACs and interfaces, Creative chooses to return to its roots with a proposal designed for those who want a cleaner desktop and audio management fully integrated into the system.

The new Sound Blaster AE-X is a PCIe sound card that unreservedly targets enthusiast users, especially those who use high-end headphones and desire something more refined than the integrated solutions of modern motherboards.

Return to dedicated sound cards

The heart of the AE-X is an ESS SABRE ES9039Q2M DAC with support up to 32-bit / 384 kHz and DSD256 compatibility, accompanied by a dedicated headphone amplifier designed for high-impedance models. Creative speaks of a dynamic range up to 130 dB and a more precise low-frequency reproduction, with greater overall sound control.

Alongside the hardware, there is also the Creative NEXUS software, which allows for intervention with a 10-band parametric EQ, dedicated headphone Auto EQ profiles, and various audio adjustments related to the Sound Blaster Acoustic Engine ecosystem.

Finally, traditional connectivity is not lacking, with stereo RCA, TOSLINK optical input, coaxial SPDIF output, and an HD Audio header for the case's front panel. Sound Blaster AE-X is already available for the Italian market at an indicative price of 189.99 euros.
