Avengers: Doomsday, new video shown at CinemaCon focuses on emotions
From CinemaCon emerges a more ambitious Avengers: Doomsday than expected, with Doctor Doom at its center and a strong push between nostalgia and new alliances.
CinemaCon offered the first extended look at Avengers: Doomsday: exhibitors had the opportunity to see a new trailer for the film. The material presented by Disney and Marvel Studios confirmed the project's direction, built around Doctor Doom, the return of Steve Rogers, and the meeting between historical faces of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and characters from other worlds of the franchise.
The new Avengers: Doomsday trailer
In Las Vegas, Kevin Feige closed the Disney presentation, defining the film as the chapter called to inherit the legacy of Avengers: Endgame. Immediately after, the new video was shown, the most substantial so far after the teasers released in recent months.
Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom
At the center of the images is Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, a figure that marks his return to the Marvel universe in a completely different guise than Tony Stark.
The first scenes
The footage, according to reports from CinemaCon, alternates sequences that move on different emotional registers. On one hand, the weight of the threat emerges, with Professor X facing a catastrophic event and Thor urging heroes to unite. On the other hand, the more surprising side of the montage takes center stage, openly aiming for a crossover effect. The video features clashes between Gambit and Shang-Chi, Mystique taking on the appearance of Yelena Belova, and a direct confrontation between Thor and Doctor Doom.
The return of Steve Rogers
The moment that attracted the most attention, however, remains the one related to Chris Evans. Steve Rogers reappears before Thor in a scene that openly recalls the memory of Endgame. It is the passage that most of all shifts the tone of the video towards nostalgia, without giving up the component of wonder that Marvel seems to want to keep at the center of the film's campaign.
Where to watch the Avengers: Doomsday trailer?
Until now, Marvel had only released brief previews focused on individual characters or groups. This time, however, the project showed itself for what it promises to be: a great ensemble film, with Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and other protagonists called to converge against Doom.
