ARC Raiders introduces behavior-based matchmaking...
Tired of being backstabbed? This new feature is for you.
The great success of ARC Raiders was far from guaranteed: the shooter landscape is incredibly crowded, and strong competition has claimed more than one excellent victim. Yet, Embark Studios' extraction shooter immediately captured players' hearts, thanks to its excellent mechanics, combined with top-notch technical prowess and artistic direction. We explain it thoroughly in our ARC Raiders review.
The problem with PvPvE mechanics
If you are among the millions of players who have immersed themselves in ARC Raiders' post-apocalyptic scenario, you've probably noticed that the experience suffers from an inherent limitation: adopting a friendly attitude with strangers doesn't pay off, because there's always someone ready to take advantage and take you out. This recurring risk reduces ARC Raiders' cooperative scope, but Embark Studios might have devised a solution to the problem.
Behavior-based matchmaking
Patrick Soderlund, CEO of Embark Studios, announced in an interview with GameBeat that a new feature has recently been introduced that could change things: alongside the usual matchmaking based on player skill, ARC Raiders has adopted one that also takes into account their behavior. This new system evaluates how much a user is inclined towards PvP or PvE and adjusts accordingly.
Players who tend to shoot everyone are matched with other players with the same inclination, thus leading to matches where the PvP component prevails. Those who prefer a more peaceful approach with humans, on the other hand, will finally find companions who, in turn, aren't trigger-happy, allowing them to dedicate themselves to the PvE side in peace. Or so we hope…
